PM should ask President to abolish Sharif’s penalty: PILDAT

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) has suggested the Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani in a letter that he should ask President Asif Ali Zardari to abolish Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Mian Nawaz Sharif’s conviction in the case.In a statement issued here on Friday, PILDAT office-bearers said that their organisation has no political agenda and they had also written a letter to the then President General Pervez Musharraf in 2006 suggesting him that he should doff his uniform. The letter says that under the existing circumstances, there is a need to bridge the gap and all political forces in the county should work to strengthen democratic process. The letter says the verdict of Lahore High Court (LHC) in Sharifs’ eligibility case widened political gulf among political parties and a similar decision by the Supreme Court could harm democratic process in Pakistan.
